MudCrab has emerged as a potential export earner thanks to its high demand in East and Southeast Asian countries and increased farming in the coastal belts of Bangladesh. Bangladesh shipped mudcrabs worth $23.82 million in 2015-16, which was $7.2 million in 2010-11, according to Export Promotion Bureau.
Bangladesh exports mudcrabs that are grown mainly in the southern districts such as Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat.Because mudcrabs are less susceptible to disease and more resistant to adverse environment conditions and climate change, many shrimp farmers are switching to mud crab farming.
We mainly export crabs to Japan where there is high demand for mudcrabs. Apart from the main destination Japan, mudcrabs are also exported to Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
